Affiliate disclosure

The short version: some links pay us a commission. It costs you nothing extra and it doesn't change what we say.

What an affiliate link is

When you click a product link on this site and buy something from the merchant, the merchant may pay The Modern Pet Home a commission. The price you pay is the same as if you had gone to the merchant directly. Affiliate links are marked with rel="sponsored" in the page code, and every guide page carries a short disclosure line above its first product.

Which programs we take part in

We participate in affiliate programs run by individual pet and home retailers, and by affiliate networks including Awin and Impact. We are also a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com and its international sites. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.

Not every link on the site is an affiliate link. When a product we recommend has no affiliate program, we link to it anyway.

How it affects what we recommend

It doesn't. Products earn a place in a guide by passing the checklist for that guide, and every product we list has its known flaw stated plainly on the card. We don't remove a flaw because a merchant pays a higher commission, and we don't add a product because it does. If we ever recommend a product primarily because of the commission, that's a failure, and you should tell us.

What we don't do

  • We don't accept payment for placement in a guide.
  • We don't accept free products in exchange for a recommendation. If a merchant sends a sample, the guide says so.
  • We don't use links that hide the merchant. The card tells you where a link goes before you click it.

Tracking

Outbound links pass through a redirect on this site so we can count how many readers click through to each merchant, by guide. That count is anonymous. We don't store your IP address, set cookies, or record anything that identifies you. The privacy policy has the details.
